Review: Mahindra 2638 HST packs big-tractor heft into a compact frame

Heavy, stable and strong, the 2638 trades a little finesse for serious loader capacity.

The first thing you notice about the Mahindra 2638 is its weight. It sits heavier than most compacts in its class, and that heft translates directly into stability and confidence when the loader is near its limit.

During testing the 2638 handled round bales and wet gravel without the rear end feeling light, something lighter competitors struggled with. The 38-horsepower engine pulled a box blade through compacted ground with little fuss.

The trade-off is refinement. The hydrostatic pedal is less smooth than the class leaders, and the operator platform feels dated. Some testers found the controls less intuitive at first, though most adapted within a day.

Backed by a long warranty and aggressive pricing, the 2638 makes a strong case for buyers who value capability over polish.

The weight is why I bought it. Feels planted on my hills.

Pedal is a little jerky but you get used to it. Warranty sold me.
